Heat wave affecting San Antonio, Texas

Today was a very hot day with temperatures reaching to the 100's. The weather is just getting worse day by day. There is no rain in the horizon and the water is running low in the aquifers. Overall, restrictions on water usage are being informed and this is affecting us all.

Realizing the heat wave is tough here in San Antonio, it is important to keep the rabbits cool and safe. I've posted before about the weather and rabbits, but it is important to mention again. Rabbits need to be kept cool, regardless of their coats. It is imperative to keep enough cool water for the rabbits to drink. Remember that during the heat rabbits will not eat much, so keep an eye on any pregnant does.

Overall, lets all keep an eye on the weather and pray that it gets better. I know that many people in San Antonio are concerned they might not be able to purchase and play with fire crackers during the 4th of July due to the dry grass. However, rabbits, dogs, cats, etc., all need to be taken into consideration rather than just a fun activity, which can inevitably cause a fire.

Let's keep our rabbits safe and help one another during these tough hot times.

  1. Will keep you in my prayers for rain. It has been really hot here for the past three days. Tonight we finally got a much needed rain. I hope it cools off tomorrow. It is very difficult for the angoras in the heat and I even keep a fan in the rabbitry from 9 am - 8 pm

  2. Thank you, Annette. We really need prayers for cooler weather or some rain. The temperatures here have reached 100-103 degrees so it is a bit tough for all of us. Our rabbit shed has 2 commercial fans going along with an air conditioner window unit. I use a timer, but I still am using more electricity than last year. I don't mind paying a higher bill as long as our rabbits are cool and healthy, but it is tough.

  3. I used to own rabbits about 15 years ago. The same goes with the cold they must be protected in extreme weather. Now at the
drug rehab I work at there are small wild rabbits that roam around but I don't think they would make good pets.
